The Lyric Lounge 2010 is a season of mini-festivals in Derby, Leicester, Nottingham and Loughborough. The season celebrates spoken word in transformed spaces, with an aim to inspire new writers and performers through workshops, mentoring and showcases.

The Lyric Lounge in association with Baby Studios
If you’re a lyricist, poet, MC or spoken word artist, or a young person who wants to write lyrics come to the studio for a day of lyric writing and music production workshops, with Top London MC Wretch 32, spoken word and graffiti artist Joe Coghlan and MC and music producer Rukus.

The Lyric Lounge at Déda
Come along to The Lounge for a jam-packed day of world class poetry, music performances, workshops and a Caribbean and Asian buffet lunch. (Workshops are from 12-2pm and the lunch will be from 2-4pm). With opportunities to perform at The Lyrical Teatime and get your music played by Charity Shop DJ. The day also features Polarbear’s new show Return (4pm – 5pm), slam winning poet Sureshot and the gorgeous voice of Mellow Baku (The Lyrical Teatime 5.30 – 6.30pm). The Lyric Lounge showcase ‘Between the Laughter and the Tears’ (7-8pm) feat. commissioned artists, Joe Coghlan and Jo ‘Spice’ Blackwood and participants from Baby Studios and the Hadhari Centre, directed by Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze and inspired by objects supplied by Derby Museum & Art Gallery. Lyrical Jam, 8 – 9 pm with open mic.

BRING YOUR FAVOURITE SONG by any artist (including yourself), on any format, let us know why you love it and find out why everyone else loves theirs!

CREATE THE SET for ‘Between the Laughter and the Tears’ (7pm – 8pm) by writing your favourite song lyric on the Lyrical Wall (12pm -2pm).

Then the Charity Shop DJ Team will DJ YOUR FAVOURITE RECORDS for you during the FREE Caribbean Lunch (2pm – 4pm)
