Join YARD Youth Theatre, your Lyric Lounge hosts, at New Art Exchange for a weekend of inspiring spoken word performances and stimulating workshops, on poetry and lyrics.
Drop in on a workshop, have a one-to-one poetry critique, participate in a live performance, practice your rhymes on the open mic, DJ and design your own album cover, enjoy delicious food, be entertained with music and poetry over ‘Lyrical Teatimes’ or catch a film to blow your mind.
Be sure to stay around for the festival finale on Sunday night when Tilt presents Nottingham Liming – where carnival meets spoken word in an infectious party atmosphere and where people can enjoy the best in music, poetry and spoken word self-expression.

Blackdrop with John Agard

Lyric Lounge Nottingham opens with Blackdrop, the spoken word night at the heart of a vibrant Nottingham community of poets, MCs, comedians and storytellers. Headlined by legendary Guyanese poet and former Poet in Residence at the BBC, John Agard. Open mic slots available.

Spoken word and performance workshop for young people with legendary, international poet Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze.

Lyrical Teatime
Lyrical Teatime with Lyric Lounge commissioned poet, Aly Stoneman accompanied by musician Milk. Aly has been commissioned by Lyric Lounge Nottingham to run workshops with YWCA Young Women’s groups. Some of their work will be featured at The Lyric Lounge. Open mic slots also available.

Rising East Midlands star and Lyric Lounge commissioned poet Andrew Graves, the Mullet Proof Poet, along with stunning performance poet, Deborah Stevenson, perform with YARD in their newly devised piece directed by Rachael Young, with mentoring from Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze.

Slam tells the story of Ray Joshua, an original, gifted young MC trapped in a warzone housing project known as Dodge City.

Spoken film
RETURN tells the story of Noah, a man trying to figure out where he fits. Convinced he had to leave home in order to make his mark, Noah returns to find a world where a lot of things seem the same but nothing actually is.

Tilt presents Nottingham Liming

Be the first to see newly commissioned work from slam-winning Irish-Jamaican lyricist Michelle ‘Mother’ Hubbard and award-winning poet Panya Banjoko, who have been working with young people from The Meadows Library.
Based on the Trinidad cultural institution of ‘limin’, this event mashes up Caribbean carnival sensibilities and invites you to join in and experience the best in wordplay, beats and commentary in a laid back atmosphere.
Featuring performances by Daljit Nagra, Sureshot, Caroline Bird, Mellow Baku and special guests. Hosted by Melanie Abrahams, music by DJ Mantus.
