Poet Coaches and Poet Shadows Wanted

Nottingham Playhouse, Writing East Midlands and Mouthy Poets in association with Apples and Snakes present Shake the Dust at Lyric Lounge Nottingham June 2012, as part of Igniting Ambition, the East Midlands’ contribution to the Cultural Olympiad.
Shake the Dust is a national poetry slam inspiring young people to share their lives, stories and dreams, and giving them a platform from which to speak out.
The Lyric Lounge celebrates spoken word by creating relaxed spaces for learning, practicing and performing spoken word and performance poetry.
We are looking for both 5 experienced and 5 emerging poets, with particular skills in performance/slam poetry, who would want to take up the role of Poet Coach or be mentored as a Poet Shadow. The poets will be working in a variety of formal and informal education settings to deliver paid workshops.
The Coaches will be shadowed by the emerging poets and will work with 5 teams of young people in the run up to Nottingham’s slam celebration and showcase, with the highest-scoring team and their coaches going on to the slam final in London in July 2012.
Poet coaches will be paid £1,800 for 10 workshops.
Shadows will be paid £750 for their attendance of and involvement in 10 workshops.
