Amy's mentee journey

I had a wonderful experience being mentored by Patricia Duncker. It was some time ago now but I can still recall the spirit of the meetings – the inspiration and humour that she brought along with her.

We met at regular intervals to talk through work I sent to her in between times. She took such care to offer constructive, inspiring guidance both in terms of style and practical stuff around maximising the likelihood of being published.

I’d not long had children at the time and was juggling family life. Her gentle and honest encouragement was touching and stayed with me. It was special and unique – fun, especially, and a reflection of Patricia herself. I didn’t know what to expect and, from day one, got something so unique I won’t have done it justice here.

What happened next?

I’m re-drafting the novel I was working on – and still drawing upon Patricia’s beautiful handwritten annotations of my print outs. As Patricia suggested, I have also started other pieces of writing.
