Claire Thomas Hawnt

Claire Thomas Hawnt is an autistic mother of three living and working in Nottingham. Stories have always been both her core and her salvation; she is pursued through daily life by the ghosts and echoes of all the fiction she’s ever read, so it’s not surprising that as soon as she could read, she learned to tell stories too. She writes magical realist fiction and poetry, often through a historical or queer lens. In her work she explores the tensions between living as an individual and navigating the world; between what we conceal and what we choose – or don’t choose – to reveal; between liberty and constraint. Themes of the past and of identity echo through her work, and somewhere, not far beneath the surface, as it always is, is love.
