Tonic Health

Celebrating Age – Elder Tree

From April to May 2021, our lead writer Sonya Hundal and shadow writer Lynne McEwan worked with the team at Tonic Health in Spalding to support three of their community groups with writing activities: the Dementia Group, the Dementia Carer’s Group and the Safe Places Mental Health Group.

They used objects from the Museum Development East Midlands memory boxes to reminisce, chat and write, focusing on creative conversation and memories as a source of inspiration.

As a result of their workshops, which took place in person on sessions in April and May 2021, Sonya and Lynne supported the Dementia group to produce a printed scrapbook containing writing, and photographs,. The Dementia Carers’ Group produced a printed pamphlet writing and images, based on the theme of postcards, while the Safe Places Mental Health Group produced a printed booklet of their work.

Art Council England - Lottery funded Logo

The Elder Tree was part of the Celebrating Age programme, which was jointly funded by Arts Council England through the National Lottery and the Baring Foundation. It aimed to tackle issues of social isolation and wellbeing in older people, encouraging them to join in group activities focused around arts and culture.
